When I first began working in the studio and reclaiming clay, I discovered a light marbling where the various clay bodies met each other. I instantly fell in love with the effect and sought a way to incorporate it into my work. From there I began working drastically different clays together- from a smooth white porcelain to a heavily grogged earthenware - to create color, pattern, and texture with just the clay alone. I have continued to explore this technique with not only natural clay bodies, but by making my own with colors with mason stains and dyes.
